Hindustan Aeronautics Limited
Manufacturing Engineer Intern | Bangalore, India
June 2012 - July 2012
Hindustan aeronautics Limited (HAL) is India's primary aerospace and defense manufacturer, producing aerial systems for both military and civilian usage.
As a manufacturing intern at the Aircraft division, I carried out dye penetrant inspection (DPI) to detect surface discontinuities like leaks, fatigue cracks from casting, forging and welding within airframe structures in the Non Destructive laboratory (NDT).
I reviewed and modified AutoCad drawings of certain redesign parts and updated BOM and product catalogs.
Furthermore, I was exposed to the concepts of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and participated in Kaizen workshops to improve production line efficiency. One such responsibility was to understand and implement process improvement with regards to the placement of WIP and defective part boxes near the operator. Quite often mistakes were made wherein defects were placed in WIP and vice versa, which is not ideal, I worked on moving them apart to make it easier to determine the two, and also visually marking them by tagging these boxes.
